Heading North to Milan
(Darling)
Salve from Puglia!
We’ve covered a bit of ground since we last wrote. We made it across the Sicily Divide: much more challenging than we would have ever have contemplated pre-e-bikes, but also spectacular. In classic clueless tourist form, we remained oblivous to major police raids on the mafia in Palermo and to Mount Etna erupting as we rode around its slopes.
As spring approaches, our next objective is to get to Milan by mid-March to catch up with and spend some time with Laura on her way home from Canada. To make the trip north more manageable we caught some trains from Sicily to Puglia. We successfully covered a good distance, but not without a few new challenges (of course). After a week in a particularly nice house in Lecce recovering from our Trenitalia experiences (and doing a little exploring of the heel of Italy), we’ve now set off north on our bikes again.
We’ll try to keep takeiteasybiketouring.org up to date as we head north. We’re just a day behind tonight in Monopoli, after one of our best days riding to date. Keep an eye on the website for updates in the coming weeks.
Ciao tutti, Maree and Chris!
